Metal Sheets

Overview

CSN supplies steel sheets coated with tin (tinplate) and chromium (tin free steel) by means of electrolytic processes, meeting the customer’s specific needs relating to mechanical strength, conformability, dimensionality, surface finishing and corrosion resistance.

CSN is the only producer of tin mill products in Brazil and the largest in Latin America, providing material for the production of various packaging segments, from food, beverages and chemicals to decorative cans, crown caps and other applications. To offer the best service it possibly can, CSN develops packaging solutions in collaboration with costumers, adding functionality and value to the end product. Hence, the Company has in its Research Center an innovation department in steel packaging, with a multidisciplinary team and state-of-the-art equipment.

Tin Plate

Product Description

Product Description

Low carbon steel sheet coated on both sides with metallic tin (coatings in the range of 1.0 to 11.2 g/m²) applied by electrolytic deposition. This product combines the mechanical properties of steel with the high corrosion resistance, weldability and aesthetic qualities of tin. Tinplate is supplied in sheets or coils with surface finishing, chemical treatment and oiling suitable for ease of handling and processing. Its characteristics are as follows:

  • Annealing;
  • Roughness;
  • Temper (single or double reduction);
  • Coating;
  • Passivation Film;

Main Uses: Packaging for food, beverages, oils, paints and chemicals, decorative cans, electric batteries and others.

We can obtain different degrees of hardness in the final product according to the type of steel, rolling process and subcritical annealing employed during production. This characteristic of tin mill products depends on a combination of interrelated mechanical properties that are regularly checked by means of Rockwell 30 T hardness measurements (single reduction material) and yield strength measurements in tensile tests (double reduction material).

Electrochemically Chromium Coated Steel (Tin Free Steel)

Product Description

Low carbon steel sheet coated on both sides with a layer of metallic chromium (nominal value 0f 60 mg/m²) and chromium oxide, applied by electrolytic deposition. This product combines the mechanical properties of steel with the corrosion resistance and high adhesion of organic coating characteristic of chromium. Tin free steel is supplied in sheets or coils with surface finishing, chemical treatment and oiling suitable for ease of handling and processing. Its characteristics are as follows:

  • Annealing;
  • Roughness;
  • Temper (single or double reduction);
  • Coating;
  • Passivation Film;

Main Uses: Drawn cans for food (fishing), ends for sanitary/general line cans, packaging for paints, crown caps, household utensils for baking and others.
