ERSA

Estanho de Rondônia S/A (ERSA), a company of the CSN – Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional group, does not use cassiterite or other raw material from the Democratic Republic of Congo or its neighboring countries (Angola, Burundi, Central African Republic, Republic of Congo, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia), as defined in Section 13(P) of the “Securities Exchange” Act 1934, in our manufacturing processes and tin products.

ERSA is located in the north of Brazil, in the state of Rondônia. Its metallurgy is located in the municipality of Ariquemes and all cassiterite used in its process comes from its own mine (Santa Bárbara mine, located in the municipality of Itapuã do Oeste-RO) or from other suppliers that extract cassiterite exclusively in Brazil and that follow all Brazilian government regulations for mineral extraction. In the mining unit, cassiterite is extracted. In Ariquemes, this cassiterite is smelted and transformed into tin, grade “A”, in the form of ingots. The deposit has proven reserves of almost 30,000 tons which, with the resources, total more than 60,000 tons of tin contained in the entire ERSA. The foundry has a nominal capacity to process 3,600 tons of metallic tin annually.

ERSA recognizes the risks of significant adverse impacts that can be associated with the extraction, trade, handling and export of minerals from conflict-affected and high-risk areas. ERSA has a responsibility to respect human rights and not contribute to conflict, it is committed to the policy of supplying responsible mineral from conflict-affected and high-risk areas.

The acquisition of ERSA, in 2005, was strategic for CSN, since tin is used in the manufacture of tinplate, a coating with high added value and used in packaging. The company is the only manufacturer of this product in Brazil and one of the five largest in the world.
