Ferrovia Transnordestina Logística (FTL) is a private company that has been transporting railway cargo for 22 years, distributing products safely, regularly, and at competitive prices. The concession for the northeast railway network was given by the former Rede Ferroviária Federal S.A., which was privatized in 1997.
The railway line currently in operation, with 1,237 km of meter gauges, connects the Itaqui (São Luis/MA), Pecém (São Gonçalo do Amarante/CE) and Mucuripe (Fortaleza/CE) ports, integrating and boosting the regional economy. FTL transports cargo using 105 locomotives and 1,377 cars.
In 2019, the company transported 2.2 million tons, of which 1.1 million was made up of cellulose, 563,000 of fuel, and 275,000 of cement.
Intersection with TLSA
The Tronco Sul-Fortaleza Line (railway section between Missão Velha/CE and Port of Pecém/CE) will be incorporated by TLSA, which is building a new mixed-gauge (1.60m and 1.00m) track 527 km long. This will allow a joint operation of the two railroads in this stretch.
Energy Efficiency & Technology
FTL faces the great challenge of promoting a more effective control and reduction in the use of fuel. From 2013 to 2015, the company’s diesel consumption decreased by more than 8%, which, in addition to economic gains, also led to a reduction of pollutant emissions. This pursuit of greater efficiency in energy consumption is one of FTL’s highlights.
Aware of its strategic role in the logistics chain of the region, FTL focuses on the constant search for technological upgrades allowing for the constant improvement of its processes through various tools.
