Introduction
Stahlwerk Thüringen (SWT) is a producer of long steels in Unterwellenborn, Germany. Specializing in the production of profiles, it has an installed production capacity of 1.1 million tons of steel per year and its main consumer market is Europe.
Acquired by Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional (CSN) in 2012, SWT became part of an integrated structure with activities related to the steel industry such as ore extraction operations, the cement industry, thermoelectric plant and infrastructure logistics, including railways and port terminals.
SWT has an internal railway system for the transport of steel with four locomotives remotely controlled by radio and one hundred cars. The Stahlwerk Thuringia Transport Company (EVU) offers logistic services for scrap and steel transport between Central Germany and the Czech Republic.
100% of the recyclable steel required for the plant, which is transported by rail or road, is evaluated when entering the unit in order to detect radioactive substances.
