Cold Rolled

Overview

Cold Rolled Sheet Products are obtained in CSN from stripped hot rolled coils that have their thickness reduced in a cold strip rolling mill. The steel is severely work-hardened at this stage and recovers the ductility in subsequent annealing processes according to the requirements for mechanical properties and desired surface characteristics. CSN has continuous and high-convection, pure hydrogen box technologies for annealing plates and sheets. The benefits obtained from the use of such technology are high productivity, suitable thermal cycle, homogeneity of the resulting mechanical properties and surface cleaning, ensuring that the cold rolled product will meet standards and specifications for applications in the automotive, home appliances, construction and electronics industries.

The cold-rolled products can be supplied without annealing, at their work-hardened state (“full-hard” coil).

Continuous Plates Annealing Line at CSN

The cold-rolled products are supplied to the market in the form of coils or plates. Chemical composition, thermomechanical, cold reduction and subsequent annealing allows for the production of different specifications and dimensions of steel.

  • BFF – Thin coil, cold, thicknesses from 0.30 to 2.99 mm;
  • BFE – Superfine steel coil, cold rolled, thicknesses from 0.41 to 0.60 mm;

These products are supplied with natural lamination edges or trimmed, rough surface finish, matte or glossy, usually oiled for protection against rusting.

High Strength Steels

Product Description

These are high formability, low carbon steels that allow for smaller thicknesses efficiently, resulting in structure weight reduction compared to conventional steels.

Examples of application: in the automotive industry, in structural parts, such as struts or supports.

Bake Hardening Steels

Product Description

These are steels that combine mechanical strength and formability. Such materials, hardenable by aging during the curing of paint, allow for reduced thickness / weight without loss of resistance against dents. They have good formability due to the low initial values of yield strength. After the stamping of the piece during the paint curing phase, the yield strength increases, providing increased mechanical strength.

Application Example: doors, ceilings, vehicle hoods.

Steels for Vitreous Enameling

Product Description

These are steels that can receive inorganic coating after the conformation of the parts, which gives the product high temperature, thermal shock, chemical attack and abrasion resistance, in addition to an aesthetic effect, ennobling its use in the manufacture of stoves, refrigerators, washing machines, heaters, signposts, the chemical industry, engine parts, architectural panels, industrial components, and many other applications.

Steels for enameling supplied by CSN stand out due to a very low hydrogen diffusion level while avoiding occurrence of “fish scales.”

Application Examples: Enameled parts such as stove and oven interiors.
