Innumerable advantages make the Container Terminal at the Sepetiba Port Complex - SEPETIBA TECON S.A. a Terminal which stands out from the others.

These advantages enable the Terminal to re-direct the logistics system within the scenario of the Southeastern Region, making it the first hub for concentrating loads on the East Coast of South America.

Ocean access: The access channel has a depth of 17.5 meters, and is being dredged to 18.7 meters. The three berths at the Container Terminal have a depth of 14.5 meters, which permits operating vessels with a capacity of up to 5.000 TEU's.

Land access: Sepetiba has free and unobstructed road and rail accesses, outside the congested areas of the cities. Designed for conditions of intensive traffic, the road connection links directly to one of Brazil's main arteries; - the BR-101. By way of a complement, the Federal Government's Multi-Annual Plan contains implantation of state highway RJ-109, which will optimize the direct connection of the Terminal with the BR-116 and BR-040. The rail connection directly accessing SEPETIBA TECON, right up to inside the yards, wide gauge (1.6 meters), is operated by MRS LOGÍSTICA S.A., which administrates the whole Southeastern Network, which connects to the narrow gauge (1 meter) Center-West Network, operated by Ferrovia Centro Atlântica - FCA. The STSA terminal has its road and rail logistics strategically inserted into Brazil's leading economic triangle.

Geographical Location: Sepetiba is strategically situated in the midst of the country's main consumer markets (80km from Rio de Janeiro and 400 km from São Paulo), which provides a considerable reduction in freight costs and transportation time. On top of this, it is located in the most developed economic region of Brazil, the Southeast, answering for 70% of GNP.

Land and sea physical capacity: The Sepetiba Container Terminal has a total area of 400,000 m2, capable of meeting future growth in demand for cargoes, with an efficient layout, including large areas for storage, and ample internal access roadways. The Port Complex also allows an extension of up to eleven docking berths in its first phase, according to its Integrated Directive Plan.

Labor: SEPETIBA TECON operates in a groundbreaking and up-to-date manner with regard to manpower. It has its own staff of workers, chosen and trained for port operations. All the workforce on the landside is its own, and employees are entitled to medical assistance, transportation passes, meal vouchers, besides passing through regular training cycles, some of these abroad. For the onboard side, in 1999 the Terminal signed the first genuinely modern agreement with the labor union of the casual workers (longshoremen, checkers and repairmen), correctly scaling the number of workers set on per shift. Under the agreement, STSA chooses 50% of the manpower to be used on board, its own employees in technical positions, and the rest is made up of casual workers, whose remuneration is based on productivity, rather than hours worked. In container ship operations, the Terminal currently uses 6 workers per shift, on the average.
