The Mogi das Cruzes service center is, situated on a 200,000m2 site in Greater Sao Paulo (SP), about 70km (43 miles) from the capital. A cadre of 320 personnel works on the 24,000m2 premises.
This modern service center was built between 1998 and 1999 and includes its own railway siding, allowing it to receive stock directly from CSN’s Usina Presidente Vargas (President Vargas Steel Mill).
Because of its strategic location, near the largest steel consumer market in the country, the center is able to serve the region’s needs, for both flat steel products and services.
On site you will find the company's Corporate Center, including 3 commercial managers, the board of directors, controllership, and the departments of Human Resources, Finance, Information Technology and Marketing.
There is a large and diverse stock of coils and finished products too, totaling about 50,000mt. The entire stock, about 35,000mt of which is coiled strips, is kept safely undercover in extensive warehousing facilities.
Internal handling of materials is carried out by means of more than 40 traveling bridge cranes, with capacities of between 5 and 20mt, serving the entire warehouse area as well as the areas equipped for processing.
Gas fueled forklift trucks are also used, for short distance handling between adjacent warehouse areas.
The facility’s equipment also includes:

5 slitting lines (for cutting to width), handling material of gauges between 0.2mm and 8mm;

3 shearing lines (for cutting to length), handling gauges of up to 12.5mm;
»
5 mechanical shears (guillotines), handling gauges of up to 12.5mm;
»
1 CNC-operated blanking guillotine;
»
1 high-frequency pipe maker, handling external diameters of up to 50.8mm;
»
Lighter equipment, for cutting and trimming strips, is also on hand.
A complete laboratory is also available, to carry out mechanical, physical and metalographic testing, thus enabling clients’ technical requirements to be certified.
Raw material is supplied mainly by rail, with a small proportion arriving via road, while outflow relies solely on road transportation. Products are distributed throughout Brazil, but the main focus is on the state of Sao Paulo.
Working with a third-party road transportation company that has a well-maintained fleet, means that products can be delivered quickly and, where required, "just-in-time".
