CSN joins the cement market driven by the synergy existing among this new undertaking and its businesses already in operation. Next to Presidente Vargas Works, located in Volta Redonda – Rio de Janeiro State, CSN installed its new business unit: CSN Cimentos, which is already producing cement of the CP-III type. This type of cement is proper to be applied on foundations and buildings at seashore regions. The composition of the referred cement complies with the Brazilian standards, and in such a composition CSN applies 70% of the slag produced by the blast furnaces that are a property of the very CSN’s Works located in Volta Redonda.

Now purchased from third parties, the clinker applied on the production of cement will be further produced by CSN itself on the years to come, upon completing the works that is in progress at the Arcos factory located in MG, which is also comprised of a limestone mine of CSN’s property.

Benefiting from the increases in terms of scale and logistics, the new factory makes use of the most modern technology that has ever being installed in the country. Due to its capacity to control the product quality on a real time basis, and to operate with a reduced energy consumption, the new mills allow the company to produce high quality cement, at a low production cost, and yet with environmental responsibility.
