The Civil Construction Market Unit aims to better understand the underlying needs of the civil construction sector and better meet the needs of its clients.
The range of products traded by CSN includes commercial steels, structural steels, weathering steels (such as CSN COR), cold rolled products and hot dip galvanized steels.
This portfolio will also include galvanized steels with Al-Zn coating (aluminum-zinc) and pre-painted steels, to be produced by CSN Paraná (CISA) at the new service center in Araucária.
Aiming at creating further solutions in civil construction, CSN has also been developing industrial processes for roofing and house construction, and bringing them to the market place.
The Use of Steel in Civil Construction
In industrialized countries, the progress of metallic construction reveals a promising market, with high growth potential. In addition, the homogeneity, toughness and resistance of steel make it the perfect material to solve the most basic dilemma of engineering: achieve the best result at the lowest cost.
Speed and practicality are the main advantages of constructing with steel, meaning that works can be completed faster and more efficiently. It is quite possible, for instance, to work on the foundations and, at the same time, manufacture the structure. Steel adapts well to other materials, it is light, has excellent resistance and, as it is measured in millimeters, assembly (and also waste) problems are minimized.
Other Advantages
Aesthetics
» Very few architectural constraints » Maximizes creative potential of project » Clarity and elegance » Open plan, allowing greater flexibility
Economy
» Efficient manufacture and assembly » Elegant column structure, maximizing usable floor space » Flexibility in storey height by varying length of girders » Cheaper foundations resulting from lighter structure » Smaller work site and related costs » Low maintenance costs » Maximum flexibility of fixtures and fittings » Easy to modify (strengthen, extend)
The Environment
» Less noise and dirt; and less wastage of material during construction » Use of recyclable material – steel is 100% recyclable. » Efficient solutions for heat and noise insulation » Efficient protective covering systems » Efficient fire protection systems
Safety
» Capacity to withstand extraordinary situations (earthquakes, collision) » Confidence in the quality of the material (certified) » Visible joints, allowing easy checking of structural soundness
