cold rolled products

In order to meet the specifications across several market segments, CSN proudly offers advanced technology in the forming of cold rolled products, including two state-of-the-art processes: continuous and box annealing. The main benefits obtained with this equipment are high productivity & operational safety, proper control of thermal cycles & other processes, uniformity of mechanical properties along the coil and surface cleaning.
The cold rolled plates and coils have a wide range of applications in areas such as civil construction, automotive, domestic appliances and electrical & electronic products.

CSN cold rolled products are available to the market with the following specifications:

General purpose and Commercial Quality steels

Used in simple forming, its main applications are in re-rolling, civil construction, pipes, components and parts. In most specifications, only the steel’s chemical composition is assured; other requirements are met by prior consultation.

Stamping Steels

Suitable for applications that require relatively light deformation to the very severe. Variations in chemical composition and in thermal and mechanical processing result in various grades for stamping. Used mainly by the automotive industry and for domestic appliances, IF (Interstitial Free) steels have excellent formability, allow parts to be manufactured to a high degree of complexity, revolutionizing the production of auto-body parts.

Bake-Hardening Steels

Combining mechanical resistance and formability, ideal for external auto-body parts such as doors, ceilings and hoods. Age-hardened during paint baking, it is possible to reduce gauges (and hence weight), without loss of dent resistance. Production requires prior technical consultation.

Pre-configured Blanks

Blanks tailored to size and ready for final stamping. Usually seen in internal and external automobile bodywork. Special cutting techniques optimize transportation; reduce weight and cost, as well as reducing further processing by the client. CSN/GalvaSud have a pressing line where blanks are tailor cut for the automotive industry, straight from cold rolling and galvanizing.

Welded Blanks

Tailored blanks, assembled by laser welding, allowing identical parts to be joined or those with different gauges, mechanical properties and surface finishing. This technique optimizes the production of automotive components, reduces cost and weight and increases vehicle safety. CSN is the only Brazilian steel plant that furnishes national assemblers with welded blanks.

Structural Steels

Generally used for structural applications that only require light bending or stamping, minimal mechanical resistance and good weldability - mainly for civil construction.

High Resistance Micro-alloy Steels

Lighter and more mechanically resistant than conventional steels, without compromising formability, produced by CSN specifically for the automotive industry, aiming to improve fuel economy and passenger safety. Used in parts such as chassis and supports, the steels are produced by the addition of alloying elements, mainly niobium and phosphorus.

Corrosion-Resistant Steels

During chemical composition, small amounts of alloying elements are added such as copper, chromium and nickel, which give the steel a higher resistance to corrosion, without compromising its mechanical properties or weldability. Used mainly by automotive and domestic appliance manufacturers.

Steels for Vitreous Enameling

Parts made from these steels are characterized by receiving inorganic coating after the part has been formed. This gives resistance to high temperatures, thermal shock, chemical etching and abrasion. The esthetic and decorative effect furthers their appeal in the manufacture of stoves, ovens, refrigerators, washing machines, heaters, signs, and equipment for the chemicals industry, among others.

Steels for Electrical Uses (non-oriented grain)

Used in the manufacture of most electrical equipment with the objective of increasing their performance and service life, while minimizing energy consumption. The less electricity lost to the steel in comparable applications, so too energy consumption decreases. Utilized mainly in small and medium-size direct and alternating current motors (for the automotive and domestic appliance industries, among others), hermetic compressors (refrigerators and air conditioning, for instance) and in small and medium size transformers for the electrical and electronic industries.
