One of the largest Steel Plants in Latin America, President Vargas Mill is located in Volta Redonda, in the southern region of Rio de Janeiro State (141 km apart from the city of Rio de Janeiro) and has an annual production capacity of 5.8 million tons of raw steel. The Plant has a total area of 3.76 km2.

Presidente Vargas Mill (known locally as UPV – Usina Presidente Vargas ) is strategically located near Brazil's main consumption centers, as well as natural resources and major supply channels.

The two blast furnaces presently operating at President Vargas Mill produce 13,500 tons of pig iron/day. The main production units are the coke plant, sinter plant, steel works, as well as continuous ingot casting, hot rolling, cold rolling, galvanizing, chrome-plating and  tin-plating lines.
