On the Mining business line, CSN owns a number of high quality iron ore mines, all located within the Quadrilátero Ferrífero, in the State of Minas Gerais. Casa de Pedra Mining, located in Congonhas – MG, produces high quality iron ore. As far as it concerns quality, the previous statement is also applicable to Casa de Pedra subsidiary company named Namisa – Nacional Minérios S.A. Besides being responsible for trading third parties iron ore, Namisa has mining sites of its own, which equally yields products of great quality. In addition to that, CSN owns two other mines, namely Bocaina Mining, located in Arcos – MG, producing dolomite and limestone, and Estanho de Rondônia S.A. (ERSA), a company that owns units of tin mining and casting.
Namisa was founded back in 2007, and CSN owns 60% of its capital stock. The remaining 40% are a property of a consortium established by some of the most important Asian steel mill companies.

Casa de Pedra Mine is located near the city of Congonhas, Casa de Pedra, Arcos and ERSA, Minas Gerais-MG. This mine accounts for all CSN iron ore supply, produces granulates, sinter feed e pellet feed with high iron content and great physical properties. The mineral reserves at Casa de Pedra Mine are incredibly vast, with a high purity content (up to 68%), and it is rated as a world class mine.
The Casa de Pedra mine was one of the first in Brazil to receive ISO 14001 certification, at the end of 2001.
As reservas minerais de Casa de Pedra são expressivas, com alto teor de pureza (de até 68%) e classificação do tipo world class mine.
Also in 2005, the production of Casa de Pedra Mine was 13,7 million tons and 54% were consumed by CSN and 43% sold to the market.
Arcos mine, located on Bocaina Quarry, in Arcos, Minas Gerais, supplies CSN's flux (limestone and dolomite), which is transported to Volta Redonda via the Centro Atlântica Railroad. It is one of the largest limestone reserves in the world.
In 2005, the mine transferred 1.85 million tons of limestone and dolomite to President Vargas Mill. Rejected materials are decanted and later sold as soil additives.
The production capacity of Arcos is 4 million tons of fluxes. As well as Casa de Pedra, the Arcos mine also has excellent quality minerals; its limestone is considered the best in Brazil for metallurgical purposes.
Acquired in 2005 for R$ 100 million, Estanho de Rondônia S/A (ERSA) is composed by Santa Barbara Mine at Itapuã do Oeste and by a foundry at Ariquemes, both at Rondônia state. The natural deposit of ores has reserves of 25.898 ton and resources of 54.066 ton of tin. The foundry has capacity to process 3.600 ton of tin by year.
The acquisition of ERSA was strategic to CSN. Tin is used to folhas-de-flandres production, which CSN is the only producer in Brazil and one of the biggest five producers in the world. CSN's goal is increase annual production of 3.600 ton to 4.800 ton by year until 2009.
