Steelcolors®

1) What is Steelcolors®?
Steelcolors® is the trade name of the first Brazilian national coating in pre-painted Galvalume steel for façades, indoors design, and displays. Steelcolors® is a trade mark of CSN’s - Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional – property. Steelcolors® is produced at CSN’s manufacturing plant located in the city of Araucária – Paraná State.

2) What is Galvalume steel?
It is a carbon steel type comprised of an alloy cladding of 55%Al-Zn (aluminum-zinc), which is applied by a hot-dipping process. This alloy adds the zinc galvanic protection to the steel, as well as the aluminum corrosion resistance. Trials indicate that Galvalume steel is three times more resistant than Zinc Steel.

3) What is Steelcolors type of painting?
It is applied a Polyester Resin based paint on the product. However, upon demand, it can also be manufactured with PVDF Resin (Thermoplastic Polyvinylidene Difluoride), which offers a number of advantageous features, being the anti-graffiti characteristic one of them.

5) What are Steelcolors® available thicknesses?
Steelcolors is produced on the standard thickness of 0.65mm

6) Where can I buy Steelcolors®?
CSN is the sole producer of Steelcolors. However, the product is sold at its dealers’ by teams that are duly trained to provide commercial services.

7) What is the minimum amount for purchasing?
If the purchasing is done through the dealers’ network, there are no limits in terms of the product quantity.

8) Is it possible to buy Steelcolors® in any color that I may wish for?
Steelcolors was developed to meet 23 colors. However, for immediate purchasing it is only available on 4 standard colors (Silver, White, Blue, and Red). Customized colors may be developed upon request, as long as the order amount meets the minimum production volume. Ask for the Colors Catalogue.

9) Is there Steelcolors® with other kinds of finishing or textures?
Yes, there is the TOP finishing line – which offers a number of texture obtained by means of chemical treatments and/ or relief obtained by means of mechanical process.

10) How can I process Steelcolors® sheet?
Steelcolcors can be guillotine cut, sheared, drawn, trimmed, bent, flexed, bolted, riveted, glued, and welded, as long as the proper equipment is applied to each operation. Ask for the User Guide.

11) Where can I buy equipment and accessories to process Steelcolors®?
As to equipment applied for processing there are specialized companies that manufacture and trade bending press, calender, hydraulic press, and guillotine, which can be easily purchased on the market.

12) Does Steelcolors® support repainting or touch-ups?
Yes, repainting may be needed for a number of reasons. Since this type of painting is to dry out at the atmosphere, it will not present the same level of performance as the one that is thermally applied and cured at the factory by means of a process named Coil-coating.
Painting manufactures, which are the suppliers for this kind of process, have the capacity to produce compatible paints, and with the same shade.
For small amounts, which purpose is the touch-ups, one shall pay special attention so that the paint is duly compatible with the original painting (Polyester Resin). One shall do an initial test with the paint by applying it at a small and hidden area, prior to start painting the entire area of purpose.
CSN shall not be held liable for the repainting and touching-up services, and does not trade the referred paint.

13) Does Steelcolors® support stickers?
The painting system with Steelcolors Polyester Resin is ideal for the application of adhesive films.

14) To what sort of temperature Steelcolors® can be exposed?
Steel is quite stable thermally speaking. It can support from -50°C up to + 300ºC, with no major changes.
However, the paint is limited by the curing temperature at the painting line, which is 232°C.

15) Does Steelcolors® serves as thermal insulation?
No, but since its substrate is the GALVALUME steel, which has been granted with the “Energy Star” certificate, one of its features is the increasing of thermal comfort.

16) Does Steelcolors® serve as acoustics insulation?
No, but is can be comprised of products that are provided with such a function.

17) What is the advantage of Steelcolors® if it is compared against the aluminum comprised material?

18) What is the advantage of Steelcolors® if it is compared against the pre-painted aluminum solid sheet?

19) Under the circumstance of a fire, what happens to Steelcolors®?
Once it refers to a substrate in steel, Steelcolors is non-combustible, and as such it does not contribute with the fire.
Steel reaches its melting point from 1.200°C on, and the paint melting point is from 232°C on.

20) What is Steelcolors® maintenance like?
Steelcolors can be easily cleaned with water and neutral detergent.
Abrasive equipment or products that can damage the paint shall not be applied.
RDepending on the building location, it is recommended from one to two annual bases cleaning.
In the event of saline environment, cleaning shall be done more frequently so as to remove sand and salt deposits, also known as “sea air effect”.
Generally speaking, the same care applied to refrigerators and cars paintings shall also be applied to Steelcolors, despite those are different sort of paint.
In case of a kind of dirty that is more difficult to be removed, please ask for our User Guide, which is available at our technical and commercial department.

21) Does Steelcolors® handle saline environments?
By means of the Salt Spray test, which simulates for a saline environment, Steelcolors products support 1.000h.

22) What kind of material is the fixing auxiliary structure of Steelcolors® comprised of?
It is recommended to use galvanized steel sections. In case a different kind of metal is used, one shall create an insulating protection in the area of the bi-metal contact, so as to prevent from the formation of electro-galvanic pair (corrosion).
It is also recommended that components and accessories have a lifetime compatible with the one of the Steelcolors product, keeping in mind that Galvalume is its base steel.

24) How to install Steelcolors® on a wall?
The ideal manner of doing so is by means of fastening trays on an auxiliary structure of sections made from galvanized steel.

SETTING UP TRAYS

- Fastening rim with 25mm and reinforcement application
- Reinforcement - 20mm x 20mm centered squared section tube.

- For trays with greater dimensions, please consider:
- Application of a reinforcement at every 400mm
- Reinforcement - 20mm x 20mm centered squared section tube
